WASHINGTON / RankWire.AI / – Next week, the U.S. Treasury Department is set to conduct a series of auctions totaling $119 billion, covering three different issues. The schedule kicks off on Tuesday, Oct. 6, with a sale of $58 billion in three-year notes. This will be followed by a $39 billion auction of 10-year notes on Wednesday, and then a $22 billion offering of 30-year bonds on Thursday. These auctions are part of the government’s routine financing plan, with the amounts aligning with the October figures outlined in Treasury’s latest quarterly refunding schedule.

The three-year security being auctioned is a new note scheduled to mature on Oct. 15, 2029. The 10-year note sale will reopen a 4.625% security that matures on Aug. 15, 2036. Meanwhile, the 30-year bond will also be reopened, featuring a 5.125% coupon and maturing on Aug. 15, 2056. Reopenings increase the supply of existing securities in the market, maintaining the original coupon rate and maturity date while establishing a new issue date for the additional securities.
All three securities are slated to settle on Oct. 15, according to the auction calendar of the U.S. Treasury Department. The department conducts these sales on a yield basis and releases the results after each auction concludes. Bidders submitting competitively specify the yield they are willing to accept, whereas noncompetitive bidders agree to accept the yield determined through the auction. The securities—Treasury notes and bonds—pay fixed interest at regular intervals and constitute a major component of the government’s marketable debt portfolio.
U.S. Treasury schedules a three-day auction series
The reopenings of the 10-year and 30-year securities on October follow similar sales in September. On Sept. 9, the Treasury sold $39 billion of the 10-year note at a high yield of 4.834%. Investors placed bids totaling approximately $105.8 billion, resulting in a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.71. The note features a 4.625% coupon and matures in August 2036. The upcoming October auction will see an additional $39 billion of this security enter the market.
Similarly, on Sept. 10, the Treasury sold $22 billion of the 30-year bond with a high yield of 5.308%. That sale attracted bids of roughly $57.5 billion and had a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.61. The bond offers a 5.125% coupon and matures in August 2056. The October auction will reopen this security with another $22 billion offering, with the accepted yield, price, and bidding details to be announced after Thursday’s sale.
October auction schedule aligns with broader borrowing plans
The scheduled October auctions occur during a quarter in which the Treasury anticipates substantial marketable borrowing. As of August, the department estimated a total of $628 billion in privately held net marketable borrowing for the October through December period. This projection assumes an end-of-December cash balance of $850 billion. The Treasury funds federal operations through repeated sales of bills, notes, bonds, and other securities, with auction sizes varying based on maturity and the department’s published financing timetable.
The total of $119 billion for the upcoming auctions maintains the sizes listed in Treasury’s August financing plan, which allocated $58 billion for three-year notes, $39 billion for 10-year notes, and $22 billion for 30-year bonds. Official results for each auction will be published on the respective sale dates, including details such as high yield, accepted bids, allotments, and pricing information for the securities issued during next week’s schedule.
